Great overall. Our class was a basic introduction class. Diego limited our group to adjusting a single setting for a series of pics. He would have us shoot into the sun, away from the sun, shadows etc. but we were only allowed to adjust the single setting. He did this with shutter & aperture until we were quickly adapting. He kept us shooting and kept changing what we were allowed to adjust. Basic but really hammered home the fundamentals.

Another useful walk with Diego, helped by the hand-outs (& email files follow up) and the customary photo sharing on his laptop at the end.

We were told the basics of action photography including knowing the way surfers ride waves so we could follow them. The various challenges were great and trying for portrait and angles were great. I learned about my equipment, in a gray morning I need to overexposed to get a good photo (positive exposure compensation) more than I thought and he helped me on that.

I noticed the surfer starting to drop in on a big wave before changing his mind and riding it out. His position makes the impressive scale of the wave apparent!

Hello! My name is Natalia and I?m from Russia. This picture was taken the first week after my husband and I moved from NY to CA. I just fell in love with Carlsbad, its beautiful beach and indescribable vibe. I am a beginner photographer and videographer and I am learning to find beauty in simple things and details. I call this one "You light up my life" My niece and nephew were about to have their first child and asked me if I would take a few pregnancy photos. As a final location I suggested some sunset photos at the beach. I have always loved silhouette shots and as we were setting up for this one, I was lucky to have the perfect southern California clear night sunset. It was a girl and now 8 years later lights up a room with a smile as large as the sun.

With a rainy winter, spring in Southern California is the time where we get wildflowers, and not just in the desert! This is a photo from downtown Encinitas, where we have a few beautiful patches of flowers.I liked the combination of flowers and palm trees. Taken with Fujifilm X-T5 and Tamron 18-300, a great lens for photo walks. In my opinion :-)

I was on an island tour of Barbados, and we stopped for lunch at a house serving as a restaurant that had a scenic view. After our lunch we were given less than 15 minutes for looking around and to grab photos. I had seen the boulders and knew I had to have my tripod, so I went to our shuttle grabbed my backpack and tripod. I was going over potential shots in my head. I made it to a cleared area and started setting up my tripod and camera up knowing I didn't have much time. I decided I wanted to

This Tigress took a long swim to cool off from the soaring afternoon heat exceeding 100 degrees. We waited for more than 2 hours to get our vehicle close enough to have a clear shot of her and her three subadults, resting along the water?s edge nearby. The offspring slept and stretched while she kept a keen lookout. Captured in April 2025.

This ground to sky upward lightning was captured on May 1, 2025 near Bandera Texas using a full frame digital Nikon with a 28mm lens. I had the ISO set to 200 and the aperture at F/9 focused to infinity. It is a 30 second exposure. This was a very lucky shot as I had just moved the camera to view this portion of the sky moments before it happened. Although it looks like the lightning is coming from the ground, it's actually emerging from a tall radio tower about 6 miles out. The image is
